Here we are in Strawberry Season, Yes Yes Yes! πππ
I love strawberries, I try to make as many recipes as possible while they are at peak season. Which got me to thinking, how many ways can you make strawberry shortcake. I know the basics, sponge cake, pound cake, angel food cake, sweet biscuits, and just about any cake you can think of, makes a yummy shortcake.
I use a few things not generally thought of like, thin crispy coconut cookies layered, croissants, banana bread, Jamaican bread, King’s Hawaiian bread, and even a muffin, to make a spin on traditional strawberry shortcake, but I realized, I have missed a major food group, lol, Donuts!!
So, I could not let this idea slip away, I got in my car drove to Krispy Kreme and waited for the hot light to come on! I picked up a dozen, came home and made strawberry shortcake using my warm awesome donuts, I have to tell you it did not suck! Lol, they were delicious! Now that I know you can use donuts to make Strawberry Shortcake, the possibilities are endless…

Ingredients:
Donuts split in half
Fresh strawberries washed and hulled
Whipped cream
Directions:
Place donut half on plate, cover with whipped cream add strawberries, then more whipped cream. Place the other half of the donut on top and enjoy!
I like to drizzle a little homemade strawberry sauce over the donut and around the plate to make it look purty! That’s a southern word for beautiful! The sauce recipe is on the blog.
